Case/Project No.:
Submitted by: Matthew Cox, Public Works Director | Resolution 22-241
ITEM 7.E. | Council Action: 9/26/2022 |
|
| | | | | | | | Description
Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Closure Agreement with BNSF Railway Company. |
|
| | | | | | | | Background/Discussion
Yellow Pole Road was reconstructed and realigned in 2002. As part of the project, a new at-grade rail crossing was constructed where the roadway intersects the BNSF RR.
The bridge structure for the original grade separated crossing was not removed as part of the project.
The remaining structure serves no purpose for the City or the BNSF, and is a liability for both entities. It is appropriate for the structure to be removed and the crossing designation to be permanently closed and vacated.
The agreement states that costs will be shared 50/50 between the City and BNSF. BNSF will be responsible for the removal of the structure.
The total estimated cost of the project is $250,985. The City’s share will be paid using Local Option Sales Tax funds.
